Project Four storyboard

Here is what I have so far for my PSA. I saw this twitter thread that inspired me to talk about "The danger of minimalist design and the death of detail".

Here is my storyboard so far:

1. The danger of minimalist design, and the death of detail
    1. first part big bold and fancy, second small.

  1. It seems that every day, more and more minimalism is being incorporated into our lives unconsciously

  2. this seems to be the social default nowadays, no matter what kind of structure it is

  3. This is unfortunate, because minimalism truly represents a lack of detail.

    1. detailed face morphs into smiley face

  4. Why does detail matter? Think of it as an identity.

    1. TEXT FOCUS

  5. What gives the phonebox on the left its distinctive character? Its details (LIST DETAILS). the phone box on the left has no real detail, or characteristics.

    1. show side by side

  6. This is not about beauty, it is about objects having discernable qualities. The chair on the left is hardly beautiful, but it does have some character. The one on the right, only seems to exist.

    1. draw on animations side by side

  7. This goes for things like benches, doorbells, and nowadays, even logos. some examples are Warner Brothers, microsoft, and spotify.

  8. Detail allows for preference, and therefore, identity. This minimalist design takes away all identity, and it imposes no new ideas on the viewer.

    1. show x vs y

  9. Maybe design is like this because we have nothing left to say.

  10. what do you think a gothic cathedral has to say.. versus a skyscraper like this?

    1. draw ons

  11. suddenly, everything starts to look the same. absolute neutrality. no detail. no identity.

    1. more and more buildings start to pop up, 3d animation? zoom out

  12. and what does this say about us?

    1. zoom out to black

  1. I like your idea a lot, it'll definitely be interesting to see how you represent this idea through a motion graphic. I use a decent amount of minimalist design myself so the idea that it's ruining things is very interesting for sure

  2. This seems like a really interesting concept for this project! I'm really interested in seeing how this turns out because I hadn't really though about how much minimalist behavior impacts us and society. I'm also curious about how you plan to go about depicting this, like will you use a simple style that maybe mimics this idea of minimalism or something else? Overall, can't wait to see how it turns out!

  3. Super late to commenting on this, but now that I've seen the final product it's nice to see how you were able to execute the scenes you wanted to get the topic across to your audience. Storyboards work!
